Retatrutide update.
I lost ten pounds and can't finish an omelet
Hey y’all.
Told you I’d keep you posted on how my journey with Retatrutide was going and I made it through the first month with minimal issues. I’ve since followed up with my Dr. and he was as blown away as I was with the results. For my literary friends, I’m sorry to digress from usual content, especially now that the short stories are on pause. But you have so much to look forward too in the next few months!
This article is for entertainment and research purposes only. I’m just a guy on Substack and this is not medical advice. Please consult your Dr. or another medical professional.
So let’s dive into some more specifics.
Dosing structure
So in doing research for this, I noticed all the FDA studies started the medicine at 2 mg and titrated up to 12mg over the span of 48 or so weeks. I also saw one report that said out of all the GLP-1 drugs, reta had the highest drop-out rate due to side effects.
After further research I learned most DIY dosing schedules start at around 1mg to assess tolerance.
Being the abundantly cautious dude I am, I started at .5mg and bumped the dose by .5mg every two weeks, giving me an 8-week cycle.
Side effects
There was a time when I was reconstituting the peptide that I thought I fucked up and broke the peptide. If you don’t know, peptides are typically very fragile when it comes to their chemical bonds. All the sources I’ve read say you can ruin your vial if you add the bacteriostatic water too forcefully. It definitely felt that way when I went two days without feeling any different.
Oh how wrong I was.
That second day after injecting was a Saturday. I was out at a diner with my buddy, where the portions take up an entire plate. I just remember eating maybe a quarter of the sausage omelet before I felt it coming back up. Even my buddy noticed on commented on it.
Short of it is you literally can’t overeat on this medicine.
It got less intense as the weeks went on but whereas before I could crush a whole steak and side of mashed potatoes and still be hungry, I found myself unable to even finish a double quarter pounder regularly.
On that note, you definitely need to watch what you eat while on any of these medicines. I used to love spicy food before, but now it hurts way more on the way out if ya know what I mean.
Weight loss
I started this medicine at 257.6 lbs. As of writing this I’m down to 247.2lbs with very minimal added cardio. There was a time where I was going on 4 mile walks or so listening to the Moby Dick audiobook in prep for that book club. During that time I was routinely hitting 10k steps, but the weight loss stalled out a little around 250. Which in hindsight isn’t that big of a deal. Now since the end of that book club and since beginning my next big project I sit around 5-8k daily steps. And this is only my second week of the minimum starting dose of the FDA studies.
Bio-Markers
Across the board, all markers from the metabolic panel dropped slightly. In regards to the lipid panels, my triglycerides dropped from 282 (big yikes) to 117. The only thing negative so far is that my HDL cholesterol fell further in the unhealthy range. I’ve also noticed my resting systolic blood pressure is running around the 130 range at rest. Further research showed me that HDL cholesterol can raise blood pressure if it’s low. My VLDL cholesterol levels also fell from 47 to 21, within normal range.
Administration.
Needles suck. Everyone instinctively knows this. I was absolutely scared to death injecting myself for the first time. But if you have the right needle and a good fatty area you can inject yourself in you really don’t even notice it. First couple of times I had bouts of light-headedness, which went away as injections went on. I attribute this to nerves and needle fear over everything else, but it’s something to keep track of.
Conclusion
This journey has been great so far. I’m far from the point of saying this medicine changed my life, but it’s definitely on track to. I’m thankful for all of you for coming on this journey with me. More literary stuff coming, I promise. Whether it be a poem or book review I’ll try to get stuff to you guys that isn’t related to my new project by the end of year. If you celebrate Happy Thanksgiving. If you don’t hug your loved ones and reach out to that friend who may have fallen out of your life.
Talk soon everyone.
